It's moving time...
Some of you have asked me where I've been, what I've been doing, and why has this account been so quiet since my last journal in Sept 07. The truth is, I haven't been quiet at all!! Although this page has not seen much movement, behind the scenes I've continued to comment, check out new artists and marvel at some amazing art, and generally potter around DA like I always have.
But at the same time, I've been madly busy away from DA. My photography interests (both business and artistic) have been madly accelerating - but still not fast enough IMHO, I thought I would be at this stage before Xmas!! I've been shooting quite a bit, and post pr
Quality Control for Art... Eh?
Over the last few months (on and off) a number of us here have been discussing what we perceive to be problems associated with the quality of "art" here on DA. Over time, DA has prided itself on the sheer volume of submissions and members, always striving to be the biggest, most popular, etc, etc. And that culture is embodied in many of the design aspects of the site, from the way popularity is measured (in pageviews and favourites) through to the constantly running submission ticker counting every single piece of crap uploaded!!
The problem exists on multiple levels, and I'm not proposing a solution by any means. In a way, I can't - a so
Story of my life!
Just yesterday I was talking to the amazing TinyAndAdorable (https://www.deviantart.com/tinyandadorable), and mentioned that it had been a while since I had been into the city to do some street shooting. I love wandering around Melbourne aimlessly just checking out locations and people. The camera sometimes works like an access pass, just walk past like you know where you are going and you rarely get challenged... but I digress...
So, the reason why I wanted to hit the streets was because I had this idea - I wanted to go out around lunchtime, around the city and the city campuses of the universities in town, and watch out for couples kissing... I wanted to do a themed shoot capt
POV Photography
Many of the photographic ideas I have floating in my head (actually, probably most of them) are not "easy" to shoot - by easy, I mean they will take more than a good light setup and an eye for composition!! No, the ideas I have require infrastructure, and construction, and some of them are downright dangerous.
You know, I think it comes down to the little voice in my head constantly screaming "cliche" or "seen it before" at me - but with me it's a little more. I want my shots to be amazing and almost impossible to replicate, I want people to say "how the hell did he do that" (obviously I don't do manips either!!).
But I digress - since I

Sounds like a shoot right up your alley! Ok, that was lame.... Seriously though, I think that all concerned would have been in good company!
This theory is a bit out there (lack of sleep)...
Have you seen the movie "Being John Malkovich"? I've always found it interesting how people crave to see the world though anothers eye's... The more unique the person, the greater the desire. It's photography that allows this urge to manifest into a physical form. (artistically speaking) With every shot you take, you allow the viewer deeper in to your mind...
